Dear team mates and friends,
last Thursday 5th June, Cozzamara and Kórdrengir played their first game for the tournment C.
Unfortunately it turned to be not a funny game. In the first half time Cozzamara was under 2-1, then, in the second half, Kórdrengir scored more goals. Two of Cozzamara players and two Kórdrengir got a red card and will not play the next game.
Unfortunately, Kórdrengir broke several rules of the Utandeild championship: they omitted the player lists, some played without number, or with unreadable number, etc.
For these reason the Utandeild disciplinary commission gave to Cozzamara the victory 3-0.
We would have preferred to win the game on the pitch, but at the end the result is more than fair.
The worst, though, occourred at 10 minutes to the end of the game, when the Cozzamara players were physically attacked by some Kórdrengir players, resulting in one of us going to the hospital (read the linked news published on DV).
The referee wrote his report and the commission disqualified 3 players of Kórdrengir for 18 months, that means a stop for two seasons. The disciplinary commission also warned the Kórdrengir team, that if they will be involved again in similar actions the team will be expelled from the championship.
Again, we would have preferred a different ending for a football game..
The Utandeild tournment continues, I urge the Cozzamara players to meet at the next training session, and most important TO BE AT THE NEXT GAME, MONDAY 16 JUNE, as we have many injured, disqualified, busy in the maternity ward, and in summer holidays on italian seaside ;)
Forza Cozzamara! hurrá hurrá hurráaa!!! :)

Thursday 5th June, meeting at Kórinn 18.30
Dear Cozzamarers, the next game, the first of our tournment, is getting closer.
We play next Thursday at 19.30 at Kórinn (in the newly build suburb of Kópavogur, behind Breiðholt), we meet at 18.30 at the indoor stadium.
Please let Stefano know that you are coming, so that he can fill in the player list we have to give to the referee.
I hope everyone of us can make it. It will be fun to play, as usual and hopefully we will score some goals this time! :)
The Cozzamara Team has long-term strategy: two of our players just got their second baby in the last few days, the future generation of Cozzamara dream team! My congratulations to Alessandro and Paolo! Auguriiii!!!

Two more photos from our last game
Here two more photos I forgot to put in the post "Reykjavik -12".

Training at Fram's 7pm Thursday 29th May
Next Cozzamara traning will be on Thursday at 7pm at Fram's.
Hopefully most of us can make it.
Next game is on Monday 2nd June against Kórdrengir and we need to work on our legs and the tactics :)
As there are some (few) money left from the competition fee, Stefano was thinking to buy some coloured traning shirts, so that we can make two teams and practice among us.
Reykjavik -12
It is not the weather forecast but the score (0-12) between Cozzamara and KHA last night.
Yes, the Dream-Team met a very motivated and fast KHA (Kærestan Hans Ara) and received a lesson which we will remember for long time. It will hurt as still hurts to Icelanders when their national football team lost the game against Denmark for 2 against 14. That was the 23 August 1967 and many still remember it today.
The Cozzamara team was alerted only yesterday afternoon that the cup's game, the first official game of the season, was anticipated to the same evening 26th of May and not the 27th. The team was planning to meet for the last training session before the game but instead had to play the game having made the last training 5 days earlier.
The game began with KHA attacking and Cozzamara organising the game and trying to shorten the distance between defence and midfield. After 10 minutes from the beginning, when Cozzamara made the first attack action, the fast KHA players made a counter attack, putting a man all alone right in front of our goalkeeper Fabio, who covered the goal window with his body, right outside the penalty area.
The ball hit his shoulder; the referee saw an intentional action to stop the ball with his hand and waved the red card to our disconsolate nr. 1.
This unfortunate accident has affected the rest of the game, probably not in reference with the result, but defenitely influencing the scoring.
In spite of playing 10 against 11, Cozzamara managed to stop the dangerous incursions of the KHA strikers. The pink players attacked constantly clashing against the Cozzamara’s wall for several minutes until finally they managed to score. Our midfield player Massimo injured (ankle sprain). The first-half ended 0-5 for KHA.
The second half followed the same pattern, with a certain irritation among Cozzamara's team because also our second goalkeeper Michele injured (probably broken ribs) and because of some goals assigned to KHA scored in offside. The referee has, though, to be excused because he, by rule of the competition, does not have the help of the assistant-referees.
Michele
bore the pain heroically and played until the end of the game, saving his goal several occasions.
At the end we have to admit that the pink players of KHA were faster then us, played a good game and deserved to go forward in the Cup tournament. The Cozzamara’s regret refers only to the ungenerous scoring.
spite of the bad evening, Cozzamara showed also some good actions, both in defence, with Dennis, Aurelio and Arnar cleaning the penalty area with authority, and in attack with good exchanges between midfielders Stefano and Daniel, and the wings Stefano R., Ivano and Jón who made a couple of incursions in the opponent’s area. In general everyone put his heart and did his best, and I would like to thank everyone for that.
the wings, defending the ball from tackling, and of course fighting hard on every flying ball.As main rule, we have to switch constantly between two positions: be very close to the opponents when one of them has the ball, and run away from the opponent when one of our team-mate gets the ball, so that he can easily pass it to one of us.
We, in Cozzamara put this game in the “bank of experience”. We are aware of the fact that most of the teams we will meet have long experience in this competition, and in the next game we will show that we have learned a good lesson last night.
I must also add that at the end of the game Cozzamara players also give a proof of great attitude, by supporting each other, clapping and supporting the team from the bench, and of course shaking hands to the winners and to the referee.
Forza Cozzamara! :-)
René, striker, and commentator.
Here below more photos from the game! (thanks to Fridrick, wing-player and photographer)
